BRIAN SMITH:
"I have been drawing and painting the human form for over fifty years now and I continue to derive an enormous amount of pleasure from it. Whether a classical drawing of the nude in sanguine chalk or a more whimsical drawing of a group of figures in compressed charcoal or an abstracted painting of the figure, the thrill of the human form and the challenge of recording and interpreting that form and its gestures and surfaces keeps bringing me back daily. I am an artist because the human form inspires."

"I create in the spirit of the moment trusting in what is considered the historical absurd: gut instinct, urges, utterances, desire, and blinding passions. "International Creations" - Ukraine to Canada

Well.. one Canadian, me... is late in getting there.
A car accident right in front of my house cut the trip to Michigan short. Every curve in the road brings new insight: regardless if your going to the opening... send the art first. I had the great idea that I would take the pieces with me, spend a few days visiting, meeting people in what I was told a very beautiful waterfront destination and on the way back stop in at Port Huron and visit "What day is it?" residing on Huron Street, and meet up with Jason Alexander of the Herald Times to do an audio for the Blue Water International Sculpture Exhibition, then stop in at Sarnia, Canada on the way home to see "Unconditional Love", on Christina Street... great plans, but never made past my street... all a great reminder that life is unpredictable. Wait... that is what my art is about... very strange.

Linda Dimitroff of Gaffia Gallery is wonderful, so understanding, and so gracious and kind in easing my concerns. I have been in contact with Linda for a little while now, meeting up with her on Linked In, and was honoured to be included in her printmaking exhibition. Well meeting her in person is definitely a given, she is a fabulous abstract painter, printmaker, curator, and art instructor, very active in promoting the arts in the Spring Lake Area, and I would encourage all artists interested in exhibiting in Spring Lake, Michigan to contact her.

"What Day is It?" in Port Huron, Michigan U.S. and across the river "Unconditional Love" in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada.

On a wonderful sunny Monday I found myself on the road to Sarnia delivering "Unconditional Love" a steel sculpture standing 6 feet tall, for the Canadian extension of The BlueWater International Exhibit, curated by John Sauvé.

I was to meet Ian Smith, Director of Community Services who arranged to store the sculpture at the ready for John Sauvé to install. Mr. Smith, I was told was instrumental in bringing this public art exhibition to Sarnia, he saw the vision, and help make it happen... in his words "My involvement was to work with John Sauve, who is passionate about public art and a missionary of it's benefits. I am a convert to this dedication and appreciate the opportunity to be involved in spreading the benefits to this community". Hi, just a note to say thanks again to Michael Smiley for organizing Art Comes to Town - Barrie. My art has been removed due to the empty space being rented, hope it was my art that brought focus to the space. A very nice fellow is opening a Tattoo business. In many of her well executed city scape abstractions, one can recognize the influence and insight she has gained from the Russian artist, W. Kandinsky. Her video “Reflections of Interference,” offers the viewer Luchese’s original perception of our own fleeting footsteps while leaving us with an intangible sense of our mortal residue. Here it is, finally, after all these months of procrastinating I sit in front of the open composer ready to share major moments... but... it isn't quite like I thought, streams of wonderful words aren't flowing onto the screen. Well, enjoy the wonderfully formatted blog, and I will back with something worthwhile to say.... hopefully soon.
